Website Copywriter-Approved Tips to Make Writing your Website Copy Easier
If you've ever spent an hour staring at your blank Google Doc (while scrolling IG for “inspiration”) when you should be writing your website copy…
Same– because even as a professional website copywriter, writing your own site copy is hard, okay?!
It's hard to write your website copy when you're exhausted, have at least three fires to put out for clients, and you'd rather be watching the latest episode of Abbott Elementary with a bowl of chips and dip.
But because we're business owners, sometimes we just haaaave to do it-- so why not make it easy as possible for ourselves?!
Although the actual writing words part is tough, I can’t stress the importance of getting into the right headspace ENOUGH when writing your website copy. When you feel your best and your environment feels relaxed, that’s when you’ll write the best copy that speaks to your ideal clients.
Today, I’m sharing my best tips to help you get into the headspace to write your website copy.
In no particular order, here are my absolute FAVE things to get me in the writing flow:
Pick a time with absolutely NO meetings or obligations nearby.
It's really hard to write when you know you have a client call in the next half hour or a dentist appointment in a few.
Put on something you love to block out the noise.
Grab your noise-cancelling headphones (or Airpods) and find something you like to work too. I personally always pick lofi music in my headphones, but you could pick nature noises, white noise, or a wordless movie soundtrack.
Stay hydrated (or at least, caffeinated).
I usually have a glass of water and sometimes a coffee at my desk. Refilling my water when it's empty means I get a nice little walk/stretch break, too!
SET UP YOUR DESK WORKSPACE FOR SUCCESS
Give your workspace a quick tidy (because who doesn’t love a clean desk?!). Then, think about what comforts you can add to make your writing experience a littttle better.
For example, I always have at least one lipbalm and a candle on my desk when I write. I also keep a blanket and my heating pad tucked away nearby! My goal is to feel comfy, cozy, and relaxed so I can focus.
OPTIONAL: A LITTLE TREAT TO REWARD YOURSELF FOR WRITING YOUR WEBSITE COPY
Who doesn’t love a sweet or salty treat as a reward?! Whether you go for a fun drink or a snack (mine this week was Trader Joe's PB cups), give yourself a little boost to enjoy writing!!
TLDR: writing copy isn't always easy, but you might be able to hack it a little to enjoy it more.
